Hacker Diet Update - Week 4
Current mood: excited
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Hello, I am YOLANDA VEGA, and here are today's winning numbers...
First ball up: 3
next: 1
and finally: 9

Making todays winning numbers 3-1-9.

OK so any of you who watch channel 7 have probably seen New Yorks Yolanda Vega putting out the winning numbers... well I needed a little Fanfare today, as today I weighed in at 319. I finally broke 320.. woot!

Next short term goal is 300, at which point I'll treat myself to a night at Go Go Rama. Anybody dudes wanna come with (I'll buy the first lap dance!)?
Only issue is you may need to wait a bit, as I am adding calories and slowing my loss.
Sorry ladies, they don't admit female customers..

So down to brass tacks...
Here's the chart
We all know and love the chart.

Today I'll be adding 70 Calories to my daily intake, bringing me up to 1437 per day for this week. Still low, but we all know it needs to be gradual.

Uhm not much else to say.. Non-fat ice cream tastes pretty good, I suggest you get some and try it.

I've not been "starving" this week, except for one day, and I didn't cheat, just had a cup of crystal light, and went to bed.

A little needs to be said on the topic of Eating out.
It's really not as terrible as many would believe. Saturday, I went to Ruby Teusdays, but before I did, I went to their website, and found a "Smart eating grilled chicken" dish, that doesn't appear on the in-store menu. It's a peppercorn chicken breast with 2 side dishes. I got mashed califlower, and tomato Mozzerella salad. I also had a big bowl of White bean chicken Chili, and a salad! I totally pigged out! And what did all this pigging out cost me? 767 Calories. A bit high at my current caloric intake, but VERY reasonable when I hit my stride at 2K. The point is: planning. planning, planning, planning. I knew I was eating out that night, so I planned for it. Proper Planning makes counting calories so much easier. Did I have a hard time in the very beginning? yes, but then I learned to better plan my meals.

And It's not just portioning out your calories, it's researching the restaurant before hand to find nutritional information, and to plan your meal. I did it when I went to the hard rock too.. It's not difficult, just a little time. I also looked at TGI Fridays.. what did I find? nothing. no information at Fridays so guess what? I won't go to Fridays, which is fine anyway.. I really don't like it.

Also, while speaking of eating out... I ate out for lunch on Saturday too. (skipped breakfast).. where did I go? Fuddruckers! you know.. the burger place.. I had a 1/2 Pound Ostrich burger with bun, lettuce, pickles, onions, and tomato piled high. I had to squash it down to fit in my mouth... and how much did this monster burger cost me? Well, I OVER estimate it at 500 Calories! I did a little research online and found that Ostrich is one kick ass meat, over 97% fat free, and tastes good too. Little expensive sure, but the price sure beats a coronary, or double bypass surgery. Low fat, low calories.. I found my new favorite meat! Can't wait to go back for another!

ok I've blathered enough for today... see ya next time! Same bat time! Same bat channel!

Intellectual Sexiness Test
Current mood: busy

My score on The Intellectual Sexiness Test:

Hot Tamale
(You have an intellectual sexiness factor of 79!)

You're hot! You've read a lot. You've done a lot, and there's a lot you'd like to try in the future. You've got a sharp, sexy mind, and few inhibitions to restrain you from exploring all the pleasure you can get. You have few hang-ups, and there's not much you don't know about sex. You're open-minded and able to enjoy things that would make a lesser person squeamish. You're an exceptional treat as a lover, appreciated greatly by those who know the differnce. You were probably bored with a few of the people you've been with in your past, feeling like you had to drag them along with you in the sexual adventures you want to have, and probably dumping them for the same reason. It takes a lot to stimulate you; you realize it's not just about bumping uglies. In the end there's gotta be a lot more to it.Still, there is always room for improvement. Before you can graduate into a true sexual genius, there are a few things you've got to learn, to explore, to think through, talk through, and fuck through. A good place to start is in taking a look at the few things you're still a little hesitant to try. Break down you're last few barriers and discover the outer sexual frontiers, and you'll become a master.

Times Square.
Current mood: chipper

Well, last night I got a bug up my but, and just had to see my boo.

I called her at like 4:30 and said, "I'm coming up, we're going to Times square to eat at the Hard Rock." She was like... "I HAVE TO SHOWER!!!"

LOL

Anyway, I made it from a dead stop in East Brunswick to Dyker Heights(Brooklyn) in 59 Minutes. during rush hour trafic... LOL, How the hell I did that I'll never know.

Well I met her, and we hopped the train to Bryant Park.which is 1 block from times square, assuming you know which way to walk. LOL. I'm not saying I went the wrong way on the Avenue of the America's, but It took a half block to get my bearings.

So we went in, we had NO wait.. amazing...walked in sat down and ordered.. chatted about this and that, I had a good steak, she had a buffalo chicken sandwich, and was surprised that it was spicy. B... BL... BLAAHAHAHAA.

Anywho, after we ate we wondered around the restaurant a bit, looking at various things, I took some pictures (pops). We had a good time.

On the Train Ride home, there was this girl, she looked like a younger Cindy Lauper. She stared, we stared back, it was funny, she was nice, I was gonna take her picture, but I figured pookie would get angry. I think she's the jealous type... maybe. When we got off the train, we stood and waived to Cindy Lauper, and she waved back... we had a laugh and I took Krista home.

I thought about it, Krista and I shared this thing.. however brief with a complete stranger on the subway that we will never ever see again. It's makes me feel a little sad. It's a weird situation, like some one night stand, with an anonymous partner.. it's a situation I can't get my head around. Mind bending... Of course if you factor in the 6 degrees theory, Krista probably is within 4 degrees of her, maybe even less. What a strange world in which we live.

Me? Jealous? LMAO...Ok, I am.. a bit. And let's just say, you would have known what a camera tastes like if you did that :)

Other then that, it was a great night ... thank you, punkin' :) Oh... what is the 6 degrees theory? lol

Posted by ~~Krista~~ on Aug 25, 2006 10:23 AM

Allen

6 degrees refers to the theory that all people in the world.. ALL people are only seperated by 6 aquaintences. For example:
Bob and Sheila. They don't know each other, but Bob knows Jane, and Jane knows Tim, and Tim know Sheila, hence Bob is seperated from Sheila by 3 degrees. So if bob really tried, he could meet Sheila through a friend of a friend of a friend type scenario.

The theory is based on any given person knowing at least 43 people, and they know 43 people, and they know 43 people, with that line of reasoning, over 6 billion people are connected by at most 6 friends of friends.

There is also a popular game: 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Where you attempt to state the degrees between Kevin Bacon and another actor. For instance: Bela Lugosi, has a Bacon number of 3 (3 degrees).

1. Bela Lugosi, was in "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" with Vincent Price
2. Vincent Price was in "The Raven" with Jack Nicholson
3. Jack Nicholson was in "A Few Good Men" with Kevin Bacon.

Understand?

Weekly Diet update
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Hmm, my trend line is still falling. But the daily bobbling is unnerving. Of course the whole point of the trend line is to smooth out the bobbling and reassure you that you are indeed loosing weight. Last week I did A 500 Cal fast for 1 day and 700 the next, to jump start it again, which worked, but it seems to have rebalanced.

I wonder if my body is in starvation mode? And that is why there is the plateauing.

Hmm, well 3 weeks. Checking the trends and they say I am loosing:
5.07 lbs/week from a deficit of 2534 cal/day
4.87 lbs/fortnight from a deficit of 2437 cal/day

This is an overshot of my original goal of two pounds per week.
Meaning that I am loosing weight at an unhealthy rate.
What the hell does that mean anyway? Healthy rate? Who made that one up? I am comfortable with my current regeme, and am attaining my goal faster... how is that bad? Well, maybe it is. and maybe that is the reason there is that starvation mode.. if it does indeed exist.

So my plan: Eat more and loose weight!
Sounds crazy right??? Crazy like a fox! I bet it's just crazy enough to work. So I'm going to add 700 calories to my diet. 700!!!! That's a wholenother meal!!!
50 Cals every 2 days until I hit 2000 cals/day
According to the numbers above, assuming they are not lieing, I should still lose approx 3.5 pounds per week. which is closer to "healthy". and still mean I get to my goal by ...calculating.... fuck. April 17th is that a bad omen or what? That's my soon to be ex-wifes B-day. maybe If i eat just 20 more calories ber day that would make it ... april 19th. uhm....well... Let's just make it 20 LESS. That'll put me on Tax day. LOL. coincidenes are just freaky sometimes.

Allen

After some careful consideration, and a consultation from the Hackers Diet book, I think 50 Cals every 2 days is too fast. I'm going to change it to 70 cals per week, that should take 10 weeks, but it will be a nice soft and gradual transition. So, on teusdays I'll be adding 70 cals to my daily intake. And so by Halloween, I should be up to 2000 cals per day.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Current mood: satisfied

Fun movie. Little strange in spots, but it is very Wil Farrel. If you liked Anchor Man, You'll love this one. The story is a bit predictable at times, but the details are definately not. If you can catch a Matinee I would suggest this one. Also if you are a nascar fan, it will be fun.

The Breakfast club. The movie not the club in old bridge... Watched that one tonight... it never gets old, even if the actors do.

anyway... that's all I have to say about that.

whoo boy..
Current mood: sleepy

I am sooo sleepy....
last night i didn't get home till 12:30.

Went to the city to see Max Klaxxon. He was supposed to go on at 9. but didn't go on till like 9:45. because there was this shitty band.. hummingbird or something on before him, but before them was Misnomers. Funny.
Misnomers are two chinese looking sisters, one raps, while the other plays the violin. It was good but I laughed so hard I near soiled myself... here is one of the lyrics from one of their songs:
"ABCDEF and G" ..... b....ba.... BUHAHAHAHAHAHA.
you know.. I would go to see them again.. the violin was an interesting addition to rap, and their songs do show some promise.

Max and Marlene were awesome, Krista enjoyed them. I thought she would. They messed up a bit.. but like all great performers took it in stride, and kept going.. I sent krista to buy a MK cd, and she goes up, and talks to Max Klaxxon to buy the cd, and doesn't even know it was him.. .lol... well this was before he went on... but funny none the less.

Oh, and what the hell is with all the beauty salons in china town. We got near the bar early and walked up and down E Broadway a bit, and every other sotre was a freakin' beauty salon.. And apperntly we were getting some stares like.. "what are those white people doing on our block?" LOL. You know me, I don't care, but she was a little concerned.. but nothing happened.

Anywho, because of the late night.. I didn't get a shot at dinner... so I was under calories for the day... I hope this doesn't mess up my diet math too much.

And I think I figured the reason for the Tell us what you're reading, viewing, or listening to: problems.. I think it's because they switched to Flash 9, and when I upgraded, something went wrong. I can't get video to play, and I don't see the log in ad anymore..so I'll un and re install flash 9 and see if that clears it up...

but later... back to work...

This week sucks. diet wise.
I've hit this freaking plateau. all week.

I looked back at the book, and it says plateaus happen from time to time, they last a few days while your body adjusts to the new weight and then loss continues..
....Well, that's not my situation.... I read further:
Sometimes Plateaus can last a week or more (ok!) this is most likely one of my bodies stable weight points, meaning I could, supposedly maintain this weight without too much hassle. However this is not my ideal weight, nor anything close, so After a bit more reading he says be patient, or try a two day fast to get things moving again.

So fasting today (~500 cals), and hopefully it'll get the ball rolling again.

Drinking lots of water...

Updated my chart again.

And I can't help but think somehow this virus that I'm having trouble shaking, may have something to do with this plateau...
I'm past the sore throat only, and am onto phlegm, and coughing, with a hint of post nasal drip. Maybe this means I'm getting over it...
Jeez, hope you weren't reading this while eating lunch...

-allenkll

p.s. still hate the useless Tell us what you're reading, viewing, or listening to: crap. utter rubbish.

For those of you thinking 500 isn't enough for one day...
Look at the size of this salad...

With Apple Cider vinegar as dressing, it is only 76 calories!

Current mood: sick

I can't stand being sick. And generally I would rather be alone in a cave.. while I fix myself. But this time is different. I feel lonely, I want someone to be there for me, and the only person that could lives too far away.

I think I'm beginning to understand certain things about relationships, and the needs of others.
I guess it's about damned time. I've always been too selfish, and maybe I'm changing.

Hacker Diet Update
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

As Promised, the update on my Hacker Diet.

Will Power.
It's not as bad as I thought. Will power is not an issue at all. I am a little hungry pretty much constantly, but it's not like I NEED food... I'm not about to rip anyones head off or anything; just sort of pekish most of the day.

Counting Calories
Ok this is the killer. It's the hidden evil. The internet is great, but when you don't have it, or a scale... it gets tough. I bought a sub from my favorite sub shop, asked for it dry, brought it back to work, and disassembled it like a ford pinto.weighed it all out, ran some calculations.. and found i could eat half of it for lunch. Not so bad. But I was on a date on saturday, and I felt so rude, as I checked my Treo, trying to search the web for how many calories was in my tiny portion of Chicken Parm. She says she didn't mind, but I did. I hated doing it. However, breakfast is easy. I stop at wawa every day, and buy things with information on the label. Dinner hurts. Home cooking and all is fine, but again, measuring, calculating. It can be a little daunting, but it's also kind of fun. I had no Idea how many calories the salad dressing I make generally has.. 70 Per Tbl Spoon! Need to rework that recipie.

Charts
Woot! charts baby. This is what it's all about. After the first week, the math comes together for my first weekly trend analysis.
-3.28 lbs/week ( -1638 Cals/day )
This is good news. I was aiming for 2 Lbs/week. But this tells me I underestimated my daily calories burned, by 638! That's like a wholenother meal!(yes "wholenother"!) To be sure however, I will stay at my current target cals for at least another week, maybe two. Just to make sure this is not anomolous.

Advice
Damn, this is one the book didn't tell me about. As soon as someone learns you've changed the way your eating, they have all sorts of advice:
"Drink more milk" (this one isn't too bad)
"Eat more calories."
"Why not use WW POINTS?"
"You need fiber!"
"Watch your carbs!"
Sheesh. The book did warn me not to become an avengelist about weight control, but it left out that everyone else would be.

And finally a pretty picture for y'all.

I'm happy so far. Let's see how week two goes...

-allenkll

P.S. "Tell us what you're reading, viewing, or listening to:" is on the fritz again, so GNR "Appetite for Destruction"

The Hackers Diet By John Walker.

He is the guy that cowrote autocad, and founded autodesk. Hardcore hacker, and ex-fat guy.

He wrote a book after changing his life and reducing his weight, the way that only a true engineer can understand: Charts, graphs, and systems.

After a detailed analysis, he likens fat people to having a broken feedback system. Makes perfect sense to me. He also provides a methodology to "fix" the feedback system through external means. He provides excel worksheets, and a palm program.

Being a palm programmer myself, I downloaded the palm software( to which he provides complete source code) to find it rather archaic, and dated. I updated the code with the standard rom version 5 (garnet) function calls, and am adding support for the 5-way control pad. Once completed, I plan on re-releasing the updated source code.

Anyway, tools are tools, and the insight he provides seems adequate to me.

So I'll try it for a few weeks, check out my system, figure out my numbers, and attack this issue the way a true engineer should. I figure I should be around 200 lb's by next christmas, assuming i can will it so. The math, the charts, the systems I can all deal with... but in the end... it all comes down to will power.

hmmm, perhaps this may be the one tool i do not posess... but I have never backed down from a challenge. So, I will not back down from this one.
