Hacker Diet update week 8
Current mood: bored
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Sorry I'm late again. Yesterday was just so productive at work...

Anywho, not much to say. Septembers Nearly over, and I am steady at 1350 calories/day. I rather enjoy that number, there are days that I don't even eat that many, I peter out at 1150 or so.

Septembers chart again

Since the beginning I've lost 30 pounds according to my trend weight.
And what's different? not much. I switched to a SLIGHTLY smaller belt that fit before, but with the one I used to use, I was down to the last hole, so to get 1 more hole I switched to a different belt.

Uhm, and.. that's really about it, one of my button down shirts fits a little better, but the others are still tight across the tummy. So no major revelations yet.. I was hoping to buy some size 46 pants for my 300 lb celebration, but looking at the way things are going, I don't think i'll be in 46's for another 30 pounds. It's weird how I can loose so much weight and my waist size doesn't change at all. Other people loose 10 lbs and go down 3 sizes.. what gives? Must be one of those, surface area to volume relationships or something. Some logarithmic porpotion in there somewhere.

See ya next time.

Superman Returns in 3D on an IMAX!
Current mood: lethargic
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Well, I went up to see my pookie bear last night. Left work at 4pm, and hauled ass up to Brooklyn. Got there around 5:15, and said my hello's and we were off to Manhattan Island. We had to change trains but it was a fun ride. During rush hour near the wall street stop, the tran was very packed, we laughed a bit, and this girl pushed he ass up on my arm. Nothing meant by it, it was just very tight, but it was funny anyway. Got to the west side, hopped off the 2 and ascended onto Broadway, we wondered about a bit looking for a place to eat dinner, and finally settled on a little pizzeria. In which we did not eat pizza. LOL.
Dinner was ok, but the waitress, a tall redhead with a russian accept kept smiling at both of us, Kris and I giggled about it, and she offered to go get the waitresses phone number... LOL.
On the way to the theater, there was a huge line. we hoped it wasn't the line for tickets, but I had my secret weapon, Fandango provided me with ticket before I left work.. Ha! Turns out the line was for "All the Kings Men" and didn't even go near the box office.. oh well... un-Ha!
So to the Imax theater, up 3 escalators each one longer than the previous, the last one was like 100 steps if it stopped. Crazy. all that, and we ended up at the BOTTOM of the IMAX. We got our polorized glasses for some 3d goodness, and took a seat
Then they make the announcement that only 4 scenes are in 3D and they'll let us know when to put on and take off the glasses... oh well. at least it was on the IMAX screen... HUGE!! With that kick ass sound system.. They didn't do the schpeel where they light up the speakers behind the screen. That was a bit disappointing, but as for the movie I take issues with some of the fundamental premises it broke in the SuperMan universe. but I won't spoil it for all y'alls.
Train ride home was fun.. we were the only white people on the 3 train... I guess Kris was a little freaked.. but no big deal to me, people are people, I'm afraid of all of them regardless of the color of their skin.. LOL.
I got home at little after 2AM. I was shit ass tired. I don't think I'll try that again.. next time we'll rent a movie... Rentals allow for more cuddling and kanoodling anyway.

later,

Hacker Diet update week 7
Current mood: calm
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

well I'm a little late this week. Sorry, works been busy.

So, here's the chart.. nearin 310... so that's exciting.

I reduced my calories down to 1300 yesterday and began to think that number sounded weird... and it did. I started this whole thing at 1317.. and figured i needed to add... but here i am going to 1300 even?... hmmm so I adjusted that to 1350... a nice round number...

Boy oh boy this diet thing is easy once you get the calorie counting down. Cereal is my new best friend... and this amazingly low calorie ham, and white bread are also my friends... between them i am 600 calories for breakfast and lunch, and am satisfied on both usually.. sometimes i get N.A.L.S around 3:30... but all in all it's all good.

so with 600 covering lunch and breakfast that leaves 700 for dinner which is a huge amount... and in addition I discovered my moms recipe for chili is only 150 cals for a cup! and 1 cup of chili is pretty filling...

Also, you may have heard people say, "when you loose weight you have more energy!" BULLSHIT!... maybe I haven't lost enough yet, but i still have a rough time getting out of bed at quater to 7 so i have no idea where they get off with that one...

so recap: find filling low calorie tasty food, and dieting is easy!! lol

see ya next time.

- allenkll

P.S. the ham is by Primrose; a local NJ company... so home team advantage... and it's 45 cals for 56 grams... awesome calorie to bulk ratio, with the all important good taste factor..

Really just wanted to leave you kudos. Doing a fabulous job as always. =^-^=

Hacker Diet update week 6
Current mood: blah

Well it's Teusday, again.

You would think It's the day I add 70 Cals to my diet.. but not this week. Actually, Thursday of last week I took off 70, then today I took off another 70 putting me back down to 1367.

Why would I do this? The numbers.
The numbers started working out that I had added too much, and was slowing my loss too much. The thing is, the original numbers were askew.

At the beginning of a diet. Especially one with a drastic first reduction in calories, the body doesn't know what hit it, and just starts using up fat no problem, then after a few weeks, it begins to realize, "Hey I better not use this stuff up to fast." Your matobolism slows, and you get by using less calories.

Now it was about this time that I looked at my numbers and, not realising the last statement was true said, "Damn I need to add calories!" And as I did the combination of slow motabolism + decresed calorie usage + increased calories slowed my loss to a crawl.. sure the trend line still went down, but it was still catching up from the first couple of major loss weeks.

So, I decided that I will reduce back to something just slightly higher than what I had, and next week I will drop off 67 calories and run with 1300 until the end of October. At that point, things should be pretty steady, and I can readjust if necessary.

I just need one good month before making any changes. I figure, I am over the rapid weight loss hump, and am into the long haul weightloss portion of the diet. which means by the time October ends, things should be pretty steady, and the numbers should be more realistic. John Walker did not mention the rapid loss in the beginning, in his book, but he did warn about taking a month for changes to set in. So I think 5+ weeks should be ok, for a good steady stream of numbers.

As always the Chart is being updated daily.

Apple Picking..
Current mood: dorky
Category: Life

So Saturday, Kris, Mike Kat and I went apple picking in god forsaken Princeton.. I think Freehold woulda been better, but this is a farm they like and have been to before so, ok.

It was hot... Kris wore pants, and a black shirt, and nearly passed out. She'll learn to check the weather forecast, eventually. LOL.

Most of the apples were bitter or Pithy, but we got a couple dozen Jona Macs that were ok. All in All a good time was had, except for the almost passing out/Migrain Kris got... Then on the drive back we went though main street princeton, and saw some collage buildings and all the little shops... nice ride... Stopped at STOP AND SHOP!!! To get supplies for Dinner... Kat and Kris whipped up some baked ziti that was really really good. I think Kat did most if not all of it, but Kris was in the Kitchen so some credit need to go there... LOL...

After dinner was Pina Coloda's and Trivial Pursuit(Genus 5). Once again.. Kat dominated... but Ris and I came in a close second after a two Pie Peices in one turn rally late in the game, for a final score of 6 to 4.
I want to get the 80's edition, and see if the playing field is leveled at all.

As an aside... I am making a personal effort to stop using Ellipses' so much. For those that don't know, and elipsis is three dots indicating a longer pause than a comma (...) I sometimes bastardise it to 2 periods, or lengthen it to 5 or more. But I am Trying to quit the habit. Please bear with me... Damnit! Did it again... and again!

hmm.

Hacker Diet Week 5
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

I'm starting to think 2000 calories is one hell of a lot of calories...maybe I'll stop the increase around 1700 or so, but I don't know. Today I am up to 1507 Which is a lot. I think anyway. After being on 1200 for nearly a month, it seems like a lot of food now..Funny how your perspective changes.

Of course... the new chart

September is a new month... so new graph. The old graph is still there just click the little left pointing arrow..

Tools:
I have to take issue with the Palm tool from John Walker, and maybe this is a flaw in the excel spreadsheet as well, but if I skip a day weighing in, the trendline stays perfectly flat for that day, pushing my trendline a whole day closer to the plan line. Now you all don't get to see the plan line on the internet chart. (another thing I have issue with) But the plan line is a dashed line indicating where I should/would be so I can compare it to where I actually am. My weight didn't go up that missing weigh-in day, so why should the trend line have to be pushed out a day, making me closer to being on schedule instead of ahead of schedule. So, to compensate, I took the day before, and the day after and averaged the two numbers and filled that in for the missing day so that the trend line wouldn't slip.

FYI, the plan line is set up where, If I weight X pounds on Y date, and I decrease my stable intake by Z calories, then I should be able to reach goal Weight W, by some date. this produces a dashed line from my current weight with an unchanging slope down to my goal weight. Allowing me to see if the schedule is on, slipping, or ahead. Right now I'm ahead!

Next is with the HTML generating tool. This tool takes the backed up PDB (Palm Database file) and generates the graphs and HTML. I changed it so you could add a footer.txt(with an HTML snippet in it) file, that it would tack the code on to the bottom of the page. I also started a provision for a header section too, but haven't finished that. Now you'll see at the bottom of my pages "modifications Allen Kennedy"Indicating I moded the default page.
I also changed the code so that the generated HTML pages won't have links to months that aren't there. In the beginning you may have remembered the August page had three nav buttons, left, right and up. Left would go to the previous month, up would go to the calendar page, and right to the next month. Well if there was no next or prev month, you 404'd, now the buttons don't appear unless there is a month to jump to.

Also, I think it would be nice to be able to set options for the graph graphic, i.e. change the colors, show the plan line, change the scale, etc. I may work on that.

I have also created a script that I run after a hotsync that gens the HTML, and FTP's it up to my server. Now that it is so easy, the graph will be updated every business day.

I've also been keeping track of what I eat and the calories for it, in memo's on my treo. I think I may want to put these up on the site also as a reference to what I was eating on those days. Maybe just a link to the food diary memo for that day on each days entry, or perhaps since I have a fairly consistent entry method, I might parse the data into a database for query... probably not, but I might.

Dishwashers and sinks
Current mood: quixotic
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Finally done...

Why can nothing be easy? This house has all 3/8 compression fittings to connect all the water in the house. all T's and Valves are 1/2.. WHY?

Here's the whole story.

Mom wanted granite counter tops. ok...
New sinks. ok...
A new Dishwasher. ok...

So out the old stuff gets ripped, in the new countertops go. Oh wait... I forgot. There is no shut off valve for the existing dishwachers water feed.
No SHUTOFF? i had to shut the water off to the whole house, disconnect the old dishwasher, All I had was a 3/8 flex hose with a compression fitting end. And needless to say there is no 3/8 compression to 3/8 compression shutoff valve in home depot or lowes. So I had to rig something, I bought all sorts of connectors and nipples and valves and all that, 60 minutes in home depot... only to get most of the way home and realize I planned it wrong. I had all the stuff to put a shutoff on the dishwasher. not very helpful since the water is not COMING from the dishwasher. so back to home depot for more fittings and junk. FInally I get that rigged. A backwards 3/8 comprssion to 1/2 pipe with a nipple to a 1/2 pipe to 3/8 compression flexible hose...
There's a day of my life I want back.

OK, time to hook up the sinks... bathroom first...
The faucet doesn't fit through the 1 1/2 inch granite in the bathroom... well it does barely... after a week.. a whole WEEK, of thinking and trying to buy something, I get out the dremel and grind down the faucet mounting washers enough so that it holds it, and still allowes the hose to tighten... Hook up the drain, and bamm leak. Apparently the drains with the pop up stopper, come in 3 pieces... not two as the directions would indicate... bastards... take it all apart and teflon tape the mysterious third connection... and it works. Whew...

The best is yet to come....
The kitchen....

Mom wants the ice maker hooked up, and a sink side filtered water dispenser. I figure I can filter the ice maker and water tap, with the same filter, just T the 1/4 inch hose... that was the easiest part of the project... it goes down hill from there... Putting the faucet in requires the dexterity of a circus performer... and I figure I can save some aggravation by hooking up the Sprayer and tap feed line before mounting the faucet handle. good idea.. but it took me an hour to try to get the damned mounting nut over the connections... then there is this fitting that is supposed to go on the cold water line to turn off the water so you can change the filter... well if didn't fit. 1/2 inch pipe... to a 3/8 compression.. TO home depot for an hour to find there is no such adapter.. or hose.. or anything... I need 3 connectors and a length of 3/8 to 3/8 hose that only comes in 4 foot lengths to hook this bastard up. home again and rig it all up to find leaks...
... are you getting the point this isn't going well...
I tear it all apart to retape, and re tighten things... all with the dexterity of a circus performer... and at 320lbs a contortionist, I am not... maybe I'm that guy that gets shot in the belly with a cannon... but that's about it...
all that and still it leaks...i rip it all down again.. at which point i realize the original valve the filter came with would work if I put it on upside down... no hose... no 3 fittings... just 1 upside down shutoff valved tap. So I re hook, and it leaked a bit, but i put "the beans" to it with a wrench and it squeezed out 1 last drop.. and I haven't seen another since.

Then finishing up the dishwasher... don't ya know the drain hose isn't long enough... I few pipe clamps, and another length of hose.. and finally i'm done.

I am not a plumber. I can plumb, but I type on a keyboard for a living... I prefer it...

:P

-allenkll

P.S. if you need to know what fittings home depot and loews have that may or may not fit 3/8, 1/4, 1/2; and are Pipe or Compression fitting.. I can probably tell ya, I have a PH.d in useless fittings...
