Old Personals Profile

I decided to rewrite my personals profile over on OKC, but I thought I might want to keep this one around for those that would be interested in knowing more about me...

My self-summary
-----------------------------------------------------

My name's Allen, I currently live in Belleville, NJ. Closer to Nutley than Newark.

I like movies. Anything really.. from Schindlers List to Happy Gilmore. More on this in the later section..

I like to cook, although I rarely do it as I have no one to cook for, and when I do, my repertoire is shall we say, limited to mostly Italian dishes.

I like to visit the park, watch movies, go geocaching, talk, and visit the city. I love to fly model planes, and program computers, cuddle, and play skeeball. I am one of those people you would ask to fix your computer, but I also know how to go to a party and dance(or try to anyway) the night away afterwards, as long as there is sufficient motivation ;)

I am down to earth. Sometimes my spontaneity suffers because of it, but all in all it keeps me out of jail, adequately employed, and properly housed! Of course that doesn't mean that I wouldn't decide on some random thursday night to hop a plane for... say Ft. Lauderdale for the weekend.

What I'm doing with my life
-----------------------------------------------------

Working hard, Saving money, and trying to have some fun along the way. Isn't that what most people are doing?

I am also taking classes towards my master's degree in EE.

I'm also trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. The tough thing here is, for years I had goals, both personal, and career related. Recently I achieved all of my career related goals. Can you believe that? at only 29, I reached my career goal. I didn't have a low bar, I just worked really hard. Now, I'm working on finding some new career goals.

I'm hoping to be buying a house sometime near the end of the year or early next year(2009), I hope the housing market doesn't completely turn around by then. Most experts agreed it would bottom out by the end of this year, but recent numbers indicate a slight bounce back in February. Who knows? I'll just keep saving for my down payment, and hope for the best.

I'm really good at
-----------------------------------------------------

Well I have some talents that shouldn't be discussed in a public forum... But..

I am really good at making eggplant parmagan.. while I'm not good at spelling parmegian. err permegan? or uhmmm parmesan?

I'm good at Castlevania:Symphony of the Night. It's the best of the Castlevania series to date I think. There was that one for gameboy advance that is a lot like Symphony of the night, but shorter in play. It was really fun, though too bad I had to play the whole thing on that tiny ass screen.

I'm good at instantly memorizing movies on 1 viewing, and consequently can tell what a movie is with 5 seconds of it starting.

I am good at rambling aimlessly about things I'm good at.

I am an expert C++ programmer; it is my art. Don't mess with my art. I've been programming since I was 7, I started with Commodore basic, and up through high school stuck fiercely with it. My motto used to be, what can C/Pascal/Cobol do, that I can't do in QBasic 4.5? Eventually though I did begin to realize the advantages that the lower level languages offered. And while I still believe that the functionality of a program can still be achieved in any language, I also understand that there are better choices in languages than others. For you non programmer types, here's an analogy: You can nail in nail with a wrench, but wouldn't a hammer work better?

I am good at using a semicolon properly! (see above)

I am good at flying one of my model airplanes; the others I tend to break often. And unfortunately, I've broken so many, I'm down to 2, my Zagi, and a modified slope glider that is now running a speed 400 in the front. I haven't flown much in the past 2 years, but they are still sitting there, waiting for me when I get read to go again. The batteries however, probably need replacing.

I am good at finding ways around rules rather than breaking them. It used to be one of my favorite games to play in high school. For example: I'd get bored, so I brought in a yo-yo, and when confronted, I'd point out there is not rule against yo-yo's, then magically the next year there was, so I brought in a spinning top. You get my point.

I'm really good at crochet, mediocre good at knitting, and better than many at sewing.

Ok that's enough.. you'll think I'm conceited... Oh one more thing.. I am good at keeping entertained, and from time to time, I've been known to entertain others.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
-----------------------------------------------------

Hmmm. The very first? probably that I'm tall. But after that, I'm sure they see my blue eyes, my nice smile, my sunny disposition (If that indeed can be seen...), and my somewhat intolerability for stupid(not necessarily stupid, but let's say... "willfully ignorant") people.

Okay, so it's not entirely flattering, but it's honest. Oh and that's the next thing they notice.. my (sometimes BRUTAL) honesty. (So be careful what you ask, if you think you might not like the answer) You have been warned :) .

My favorite books, movies, music, and food
-----------------------------------------------------

(A)

I'm not much of a fiction reader in general, so it's pretty easy to pick my favorite fiction books, as there haven't been that many: The Dilbert Principle - Scott Adams Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy - Douglass Adams ( no relation)

Non fiction gets a bit harder: A Brief History of Time - Steven Hawking The C++ programming language - Bjarne Stroustroupe (sp?)

(2) Monty Python and the holy Grail, Fight Club, Ferris Bueller's day off, Real Genius, Logan's Run, and Tron.

(third) I like Classic Rock, 80's, Classic Country, Classic rap, 90's Alternative Rock. I'm usually tolerant of most everything else, at least in short bursts. You'd be surprised what songs I may know, I learned in "Leningrad. Black market. Everything from ABBA to ZZ Top."(Bonus points to you if you can name that quote. Without googling :P )

(E) Chicken Parmesan, Pizza with extra cheese and maybe some peppers and onions. The only problem with onions on pizza is that they make it harder to eat the pizza; take a bite, and the onion comes unraveling off. Pizza makers should used chopped onions instead of sliced ones! and "Pez... Cherry flavored Pez"( more bonus points ).
The six things I could never do without

1. Sulfur 2. Phosphorus 3. Oxygen 4. Nitrogen 5. Carbon 6. Hydrogen

There you have it... the SPONCH atoms of life. Six elements no one can live without. Hmm Maybe I was too literal? Let's try again:

1. Card Games, especially Poker 2. Laughter 3. A good friend 4. A Standard Normal Estimation Table 5. My Car 6. Sleep
I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a lot of time thinking about, how to better serve women. With bread? Peas? White wine? Hell no... red wine! See? I'm cultured! I know when to use a white or red.

Damnit.. Why do I take nothing seriously? Hmm, I seem to spend a lot of time thinking about that... and cheese. (cheese?!? where the hell did that come from?) mmmmm 64 slices of American cheese. Actually I generally don't like cheese. Some provolone and Mozzarella, but that's about it.

Ok.. random hilarity aside... Lately I've been spending time thinking about what I want to be when I grow up... if I decide to grow up. :)

I've also spent a lot of time thinking about why it's so hard to find someone that you can connect with that fits your basic needs criteria. It seems such a simple proposition, especially when you don't have a lot of criteria, but alas, it is not.

On a typical Friday night I am
-----------------------------------------------------

Out with a friend.

Playing Poker.

Maybe I'll be tinkering with one of my motorcycles. Or maybe I'll think about the number 42.

Hmm, makes me wonder what the hell typical is.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
-----------------------------------------------------

I can't dance very well, but I'm willing to learn. Especially swing dancing. I've always wanted to do that well. Some have tried to teach me in the past, with moderate success, so I might just surprise you a little :)

I can slow dance for about 7/15ths of the song, after which I lose the rhythm for a few seconds, and throw My partner off.

Here's a good one... When I go to the vending machine to get a bag of chips or something. Right after I put in My money, I develop anxiety that I'm not going to push E-9 correctly, and I'll end up with barbecue chips instead of regular. It doesn't slow My day any, but it gets My heart rate up a bit for sure. Needless to say, I don't go to the vending machine that often. Here's a worse one... you know the vending machine with the little sliding doors? I'm always afraid I'll let the door slip closed before I get My apple out, and I'll have to pay twice for the apple.

You should message me if
-----------------------------------------------------

If any of the following apply:

1) you are interested in Me.

2) you know how to spell parmesian.. you could be the dictionary to My thesaurus :) Okay that didn't come out as romantic as it sounded in My head, but go with it..

3) you too have Vending Machine Anxiety Disorder(VMAD). (Yes, Virginia, I just made that up.) W/we could start a support group... and hopefully meet someplace that has a counter person available for snacks.

4) you understand why I've capitalized My pronouns as such.

you should NOT message me if

1) you're a superficial bitch. Which, If you've gotten this far down, you're most likely not. I know many woman cringe at the word bitch, please note that I don't use it all that often.

2) you're just looking for a hookup. I'd rather have a new friend, then just sex. (Yes I am interested in sex, just not right away.)

3) you smoke. period. That includes people "trying to quit" and "only when drinking"

4) you're a super jealous person, as I do have female friends, that are just friends.

So, All kidding aside, and down to seriousness, of which I am capable.

My new friend would be someone I could talk to. No need to be a brainiac, but W/we need to have something in common. I am pretty much a renaissance man, and can discuss just about anything, I love to learn, and am very open minded. But more than that, I am looking for someone to be My best friend, My lover, My confidant, My grocery shopping partner, My walk in the park person, My cuddle buddy, My video game sidekick, My hockey fan, the girl on the back of My motorcycle, My fellow theater hopper.
If you think you could be at least some of those things to Me, then let Me know.
