Static guard my cat?

Is it wrong to spray static guard on my cat? He's shedding very badly, and the static electricity is keeping the hair on him very tightly... I bruch him twice a day, and get enough hair off to start a second cat, but still he looks mangey, and knotted. I just bathed him, so he shoul look shiny and new. I know it's the extra hair doing it, and I know it's not attached, as I can, slowly and tediously, pull it off him, but the brush should work better, and it's not.

Anyone? Do you think static guard would hurt him?
